We will be looking into ways we can work with local governments and businesses to run healthy living campaigns in schools and clubs across South East Queensland, she said.

 As mothers, Maree and I appreciate the importance of promoting healthy living to young people, so we aim to make Ridgy a company that is synonymous with and actively campaigns for healthier lifestyle choices, Ms Shekleton said.

 We have been working closely with a cross-section of our target market since Ridgys inception to make sure our designs and vision for Ridgy align with what young people want, and their response to Ridgys first line has been staggering. What has amazed us the most if the positive response from parents we have sold to people from 8 to 88 she said.

 Not only is the Ridgy line edgier and more vibrant than current offerings, but the company also has the health of its Aussie consumers as a key objective.

 According to Vogue journalist, Damien Woolnough this seasons shion is about standing out from the crowd, so the timing could not be better for Co-directors Maree Mostert and Lee Shekleton who have created the Ridgy line full of style and pizzazz.

 $40 for 1 month membership and 30 min lesson. (Includes Gold39;s Gym!) A $183 value at KC Racquet Club

 And then there is my childhood habit of books into companions. It isnt just about reading A Wrinkle in Time – its about my copy of the novel, with its cover appropriately wrinkled from hours of bathtub steam. I delight in the number of cracks on a spine, the sheer volume of pages represented by the books on my shelves.

 These books have lives that have changed mine. If it werent for the signature in that stolen copy of Fahrenheit 451, I wouldnt have felt a personal responsibility for books and their authors, a conviction that led me to New York to study at the only university with a great books curriculum. If it werent for the gift of that galley of The United States of Arugula, I wouldnt have developed the friendship with my boss, a food editor, and that was what made me realize that exploring the place of food in our lives was what I really wanted to do. And if it werent for the reproach represented by that Directions guide to Edinburgh, I probably wouldnt have abandoned the promise of a publishing job in the city after graduation to take my new passion for food to a rm in Califuggornia and start the adventure I never had in Scotland.

 ABOUT THE WRITER

 In eliminating a books physical existence, something crucial is lost forever. Trapped in a Kindle, the story remains but the book can no longer be scribbled in, hoarded, burned, given or received. We may be able to read it, but we cant share it with others in the same way, and its ability to connect us to people, places and ideas is that much less powerful.

 But once we all power up our Kindles something will be gone, a kind of language. Books communicate with us as readers – but as important, we communicate with each other through books themselves. When that connection is lost, the experience of reading – and our lives – will be forever altered.

 Several weeks into December last year, my parents suggested I might like a Kindle for Christmas.

 Books as I grew up with them – books with jackets and covers and and spines – have stories that reach beyond whats written inside, and those stories are mine. Theres the back copy of Fahrenheit 451, signed by Ray Bradbury when he came to my hometown bookstore (and which I consequently never returned to the library). Theres the green advance galley of The United States of Arugula, given to me in the first week of a magazine internship by a friendly boss and read entirely on the subway so fellow riders could observe my insider status (never mind that it had been in stores for five years). Then theres the bright blue, barely opened guide to Edinburgh, a gift from my ther that sits on my shelf and stabs me with guilt for my last-minute decision not to study abroad.

 Sara Barbour, a recent Columbia University graduate, is an apprentice rmer in Santa Cruz, Calif. She blogs at girlrmkitchen.com, and she wrote this for the Los Angeles Times.

 Ive never used a Kindle. Ive seen them in an over-the-shoulder sort of way – the sleek tablet design, the portraits of Mark Twain and Virginia Woolf that materialize on the screen like the work of a divinely inspired Etch A Sketch. Part of the reason Im wary of picking one up is that I dont want to experience the inevitable lure, the wavering that might begin as I imagine myself pulling a Kindle out of my significantly lighter bag on the airplane, or in a coffee shop. Like the dieter who drives the long route home to avoid passing the Dairy Queen, I just dont want to be tempted.

 I was sitting in my room at school, and my eyes darted to the bookshelf on my left. From the silence on the line they could tell I wasnt enthusiastic; I muttered something about not needing another gadget, mostly because I couldnt find a way to shape my reluctance into words. The conversation was tactfully forgotten, and Christmas morning, as my grandmother happily unwrapped a Kindle, I found a Jonathan Franzen novel and a new pair of Ugg boots under the tree.

 Falling Skies, 9 p.m. June 19 on TNT. Steven Spielberg is an executive producer of this drama about survivors of an alien invasion trying to stay alive while fighting back. Noah Wyle stars as Tom Mason in a thriller that might remind you of Stephen Kings The Stand or even The Walking Dead minus the zombies.

 Happily Divorced, 10:30 p.m., TV Land. Fran Drescher and her ex-husband, Peter Marc Jacobson, created this surprisingly charming new sitcom. Drescher stars as Fran, a long-married florist whose husband (John Michael Higgins) surprises her with the news that hes gay. He cant afford to move out, though.

 The Seattle Times Company

 Some of these shows are on broadcast TV: Americas Got Talent, The Voice, So You Think You Can Dance and The Bachelorette. But finding first-run comedy or drama will mostly require turning to cable, where 11 networks will debut 15 scripted shows this summer.

 Outcasts, 9 p.m.Television Saturday, BBC America. Pioneers from a disintegrating Earth build a new society in this absorbing British science-fiction drama set on a habitable planet called Carpathia. Watch the premiere and you might think youve missed an earlier season, but no; the opener is meant more to intrigue than to inform.

 Combat Hospital, 10 p.m. Tuesday, ABC. The only one of the 10 spotlight shows that wasnt available for preview, Combat Hospital (formerly The Hot Zone) is also the only new scripted show premiering this summer on a broadcast network. Its set in Afghanistan in 2006 and tells the stories of doctors and nurses working with NATOs security force.

 St. Louis Post-Dispatch

 Teen Wolf, 10 p.m. Mondays, MTV. Less like the Michael J. Fox comedy and more in the Twilight vein, this dark new Teen Wolf stars Tyler Posey as a high-school student who is bitten and becomes a werewolf. Teen angst ensues as Scott tries to figure out whats happening to him, while also connecting with new girl Auggllison (Crystal Reed), who has a secret of her own.

 Here are 10 of the new dramas and comedies arriving this summer that are worth a look.

 As the broadcast networks slammed the brakes on their 2010-11 TV season, cable networks already were revving their engines for a st start to summer. Expect a traffic jam as more than 80 shows debut or return by August.

 The Protector, 10 p.m., Lifetime. Ally Walker (Profiler) returns to TV, this time as LA homicide detective and single mother Gloria Sheppard. The Protector feels miliar, but its easygoing mix of procedural and mily drama will appeal to ns of the Lifetime brand and, especially, to ns of Walker.

 Torchwood: Miracle Day, 10 p.m. July 8 on Starz. In this extension of the BBCs Torchwood, people all over the world somehow stop dying, threatening to stretch the Earths resources to the breaking point. Mekhi Phifer is CIA agent Rex Matheson, who tries to figure out whats happening.

 Malware attacks are a growing problem on all Web sites.Read more about what to do if you see something suspicious.

 Suits, 10 p.m. June 23, USA. A buddy dramedy about lawyers, Suits doesnt have any right to feel as fresh as it does. Credit, possibly, the casting of Patrick J. Adams, billed as a heartthrob from Pretty Little Liars but largely unknown to viewers out of their teens.

 State of Georgia, 8:30 p.m. June 29, ABC Family. Silly and a bit too noisy but hard to dislike, this new sitcom stars Raven-Symone as Georgia, a confident aspiring actress, and Majandra Delfino as her best friend, a science geek. Together, they take on New York City.

 ByGail Pennington

 Wilfred, 10 p.m. June 23, FX. Elijah Wood stars as Ryan in a strange but also strangely sweet comedy. Ryan is paralyzed by anxiety until he finds unlikely support from a dog. Well, not exactly a dog. His pretty neighbor sees Wilfred (Jason Gann) as her dog, while Ryan sees a guy in a dog suit who speaks, offers advice and frequently leads Ryan astray.

 More than 80 shows debut or return by August 8212; and finding first-run comedy or drama will mostly require turning to cable.

 And finally we tried on a pair of Skechers USA (SKX), which Poser rates a sell on expectation they will lose $0.16 per share this year. His pessimism on the stock is partly based on precedent.

 34;I dont see another stumble happening,34; he says. 34;Its a different company with different people than it was in 2007 and 2008.34;

 34;Ugg accounts for 80 percent of their business,34; Poser says. 34;But the classic Ugg boot is now only 15 to 20 percent of sales.34;

 34;Ballerinatranslucents,34; Poser says, as he list a few of the new Crocs products that are driving sales. 34;And the new Chameleon, too.34;

 And thats actually part of the continuing Crocs turnaround story, Poser says, pointing to past disappointments by the retailer after the first period of meteoric growth. But a new management team and some key divestitures combined with an ever-growing product line could point to a winner. It is an expensive winner, Poser concedes; its trading at 21.3 times this years estimated earnings. But Poser thinks it will still be able to beat his high-on-the-street expectations.

 Thats because, again, this trendy footwear company has expanded its product line of slippers, sandals and flip-flops, and even added an Italian line called Avina.

Welcome!MEET THE TEAM: Matt Nesto, Jeff Macke, Aaron Task, Jennifer Carinci and Morgan Korn

 To help it get there, Poser says a steady and reliable stream of new products via development or acquisition will be needed. Last month Deckers offered $150 million for the Sanuk Sidewalk Surfer franchise. The deal is still pending but Poser writes that it could be a $100m brand within three years.

 Furthermore, Poser says the maker of skateboard sneakers is 34;sitting on $100 million of excess toning inventory34; and also has not spent enough time on product development.

 You might say the future of Crocs (CROX) is perfectly clear. At least thats what Sterne Agee analyst Sam Poser tells Breakout when asked to explain why he not only maintains his buy rating on the funky footwear company after itsstock has gone from $2 to $25 in theugg past three years but actually just raised his price target to $30.

 In addition, Poser says the internalization of a large chunk of its European marketing effort, as well as a sharp increase in retail outlets (from 18 to 27 with 15 more in the works), could help the stock rally to $120.

 .yuhead-logo h2 width:250 height:30 background-image:url( _background-image:url( .yuhead-logo a width:250 height:30 .yuhead-logo div.yuhead-comarketing width:250

 Fundamental company data provided byCapital IQ. Historical chart data and daily updates provided byCommodity Systems, Inc. (CSI). International historical chart data and daily updates provided byMorningstar, Inc.

 Indeed it is. Those original rubbery Crocs clogs now account for only 15 percent of the business, Poser says.

 In many ways, Deckers Outdoor (DECK) is a similar story, at leastin its meteoric share price move over the past year. Poser is also unflinching and buying the stock. In ct, as his top pick, you could say Deckers has even bigger shoes to fill than rival Crocs does and that they will need to take their Ugg brand to places never dreamed of.

 Further adding to his concerns is that Skechers is heading right into the deep end of the competitive pool with its new products as they 34;switch toning over to performance, running and training.34;

 Skechers is so undervalued – its a great buy, almost a zero debt company. Great balance sheet and free cash flow. Poser does not know what he is talking about.

 34;They owned toning34; but are now 34;walking straight into the Nike, Adidas, New Balance, Asics34; of the world.

 You can practically hear the kids clambering already and, therefore, the retailers, too.

 A look at a 5-year chart of Skechers clearly shows that investors are all too miliar with heartbreak and euphoria. For the record,if you think (SKX) looks cheap here and that it might be time to step in, Poser says its going to $10.

 Marksun Australia Pty Ltd has been fined $430,000 for lse and misleading conduct following action by the ACCC in Perth, $100,000 of which related specifically to the unauthorised use of the Australian Made logo.Ugg boot trader penalised for lse ‘Australian Made’ claims

 That8217;s not to say that this area is without confusion, he said 8220;There are some in our policy makers that would like to see a tougher approach adopted to what is defined as having been produced in Australia or made in Australia. That8217;s a policy issue, but there are some very clear explanations set out in booklets on our website.

 The ACCC considers country of origin claims to be a particularly valuable marketing tool for businesses as many consumers place a premium on goods that are Australian made, said Samuel.

 Samuel advised small businesses unsure of the obligations relating to mixed source products and manucturing processes should read the information provided on the ACCC website.

 Image credit: Thinkstock

 The product in question was Marksuns Chinese-made ugg boots, which were being promoted using a number of misleading devices, including the trademark Marksun Products Ugg Boots from Australia, the statement Made in Australia from Australia Wool, as well as images of wombats, kangaroos, the Australian flag, the Sydney Opera House, and the official green and gold Australian Made logo.

 uggWhen asked as to how Marksuns misleading conduct was uncovered, Samuel was unable to divulge specifics, but noted that such cases generally came to the attention of the ACCC due to alerts from competitors.

 With the number of Australian small businesses growing, NETT provides a one-stop shop of information to get your business working for you. Crammed full of helpful articles, tips and small business advice, NETT gathers expert advice from Australian small business owners, industry experts and online professionals and houses it all in an easy-to-follow format. Reaching across a wealth of topics from technology to search optimisation and resources. NETT focuses on assisting Australian small business and providing better business advice to allow you to build a strong online presence.

 This entry was posted inNews and taggedbusiness growth,e-commerce,finance,marketing,small business,technology. Bookmark thepermalink.

 To complement the penalties, Justice Gilmour also ordered that Marksun be permanently prevented from similar conduct, and that an explanatory notice be posted to each of the companys websites that promoted its ugg boots. Marksun has also been ordered to pay the ACCC8217;s costs.

 Sometimes they8217;ll come from consumers that will have some knowledge as to the source of the product itself. Sometimes it will come from our staff. We have nearly 850 staff that are out there shopping every day, including commissioners and the chairmen. We8217;ve always got our eyes open for things that may be misleading or deceptive.

 These matters often come to us through competitors who feel aggrieved at the ct that a competitor is providing misleading information, which may be giving them an inappropriate and unir competitive advantage, said Samuel.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has penalised an online trader for misleading conduct over lse Australian Made claims.

 Graeme Samuel, chairman of the ACCC, claimed the matter highlighted the need for businesses to be careful not to mislead customers when advertising their products.

 The overall character of the conduct in promoting goods that are entirely made in China was calculated to apply a veneer of Australian-ness or Australia washing said Justice John Gilmour, who handed down the penalty to Marksun. He also described the conduct as deliberate and dishonest.
